I'm Tarek Rached. I like to build things, and to use numbers to create pictures of the material world.

You can find me on Github and LinkedIn.

Tarek's Head

Most recently, I was Senior Director, Data Platform at Equilibrium Energy, where I built AI-native data infrastructure, designing systems where LLMs and agents are first-class consumers alongside humans. Previously, I led an AI/ML UI team at Apple and built the Algo UI team at Stitch Fix. You can still check out the Algorithms Tour if you're curious.

Projects

Nights-and-weekends builds, all on GitHub:

  • esphome-sram-axs: SRAM AXS (eTap) battery levels in Home Assistant, decoded on the ESP32; no pairing, no app.
  • pbz: command-line toolkit for Pixelblaze LED controllers, built for some LED strips at home.
  • chartsam: NOAA chart 18649 (Entrance to San Francisco Bay) as an offline PWA with live GPS position, for when I'm out on the water; built because the official PDF is big enough to reliably crash an iPhone viewer.
  • eat-my-shorts: when do I have to leave my desk to catch the train, and what time will I be home? Real-time BART departures as a home-screen PWA.
  • hot-tub-time-machine: water-chemistry tracker with a test wizard and dosing math.

Older: the Stitch Fix Algorithms Tour is still up, and still the thing I point people at first.
